Aries Horoscope for April 2012

By the time you get to April, you will feel like Hannibal, one of the most celebrated military commanders in history, after he had crossed the Pyrenees and the Alps with his 38,000 infantry soldiers, 8,000 cavalry, and 37 war elephants. It has been a strenuous set of months, hasn't it, dear Aries? Despite all your efforts, you still don't have victory, but you are getting close, so keep up your efforts.

You've been struggling with Mars, your ruler, in retrograde since January 23, not to go direct until April 13. To complicate matters more, Mercury has also been retrograde since March 12, but he will go direct sooner, on April 4. When planets are out of phase like this, they are weak, so it's been nearly impossible for you to get anyone to make a decision, sign a contract, or give a directive. Everything seems to be hanging in limbo. If you have no idea where you stand in love, career, housing, or any number of other matters, join the group. Everyone of every sign in the same boat, but as an Aries, you felt things more directly, because Mars is your guardian planet. When your ruler is out of commission, you are too, but only for a while.

Things are looking up, and you are closer to a breakthrough than you might suppose. Mercury will turn direct on April 4, but you will see even more progress after Mars moves direct on April 13. Mars brings energy - he is the gas you put in your car to make it go. When Mars is retrograde, there is no gas, so the car stands still. Actually, as odd as this sounds, if you were prevented from moving forward over the past months due to slow paperwork or indecision or because things were in flux, you benefited. You would not want Mars and Mercury retrograde in the DNA of the day you launch your new project.

If you were not chosen to win a certain job you wanted and interviewed for it during this maddening period, keep in mind that it looks like they hired the wrong person at the wrong time. No one should hire anyone when planets are emitting such scrambled, weak energy. You may be called back later when the person they chose doesn't work out, or you may simply have the pleasure of knowing you were the one they should have hired.

Don't jump on your projects too close to April 13, as any planet is at its worst at the start and end of a retrograde. Things are still very unstable. Patience! As these two little drunk planets are finally turning direct, they will still have to shake off their little hangovers. That will take a little time. As they do, the world waits. By the time you get to May, these two little guys will be stronger and you will see a big difference in the level of activity in your life - things will begin moving again.

There is another reason to go slowly. We will have one of the most difficult days of the year coming up on Sunday, April 15, when Saturn will oppose the Sun. This day has a plus or minus of two days on either side. Saturn is in Libra, and the Sun is in Aries, so you will be named in this configuration. The Sun rules authority figures, and with Saturn opposed, if you meet with a VIP on the weekday before, Friday, April 13 - or the day after this conjunction, Monday, April 16 - you are likely to encounter an executive who is overworked, under pressure, and not in the mood to give you what you want. Saturn forces us to be realistic and practical. Sometimes he makes us face up to errors in judgment in our past actions so that we can learn from them, which, over the long run, is helpful. In the short run, we want to hide under a banana leaf and have the world go away.

Put as much space around April 15 as you can - two days on either side. Saturn rules your tenth house of career, so April 13-16 would not be the time for a big interview. This aspect, Saturn opposed the Sun, is tough. The Sun rules Aries' fifth house of love, so a romantic relationship may become rocky on those days, too - your partner may act cranky and critical, and nothing you do will seem to help. This is a point in the month to hide under a banana leaf and wait for better times.

Being the optimist I am, I am trying to come up with something positive to do in the days surrounding April 15, but I am stretching. Saturn rules teeth and bones, so it may be a good time to see a dentist or orthopedic doctor. Honestly, though, I feel it's best to just hide, as this could be a day when you feel stressed out, deflated, and depressed. I do NOT want you to talk to your accountant near April 15, but sure as mud, you will hear from your accountant then. They all seem to run right up to the due date for taxes because they like to check their work several times. Ah, some things can't be helped.

Saturn will have his fingerprints over early to mid-April. The first half is hard, and the second half will be easy. Believe it or not, the third and fourth week of April could actually bring REALLY good news.

As long as I am pointing out difficult days, let's mention one more, just to get it out of the way before we can talk about the spectacular new moon that will fall later in the month.

Let's backtrack and start at the top of the month, to the full moon in Libra on April 6. This full moon at 17 degrees will fall very close to Saturn at 27 degrees, a span of 10 degrees that is considered wide, but in my experience, still close enough to have influence. Pluto will be in Capricorn at 9 degrees, in angry angle at the full moon too, and this represents a span of 8 degrees. This is absolutely considered "within orb," meaning close enough, so Saturn will create a feeling of seriousness.

This full moon of April 6 seems to point to a matter involving a partner - your spouse or business partner / collaborator will be the subject of your thinking, and for some reason, you will need to iron out a difficulty between you at this time. If that's not possible, you may leave. There is another possible interpretation, and that is, if your partner is ill or in a crisis and you hear of it at this time. In this case, you will be called upon to help this person.

Also at the time of the full moon, Pluto is in your house of career, so an authority figure could seem quite demanding, self-centered, or pushy. This person may be a client or boss who is treating you as his slave. Still, this person seems to play a powerful position your life. You seem to need this person's help, so you will probably have to give this person what he demands, even though it may be unfair. Throughout this sticky full moon, remind yourself that this is just temporary. Also say to yourself: This is not an eclipse, so I can get through this period.

Dear Aries, I know this is birthday month, and I want it to be filled with sunshine. The Aries born April 15 to 19 are still feeling the direct rays of Saturn in opposition to the Sun, a very severe aspect that gives all sorts of difficulties, mainly due to a complete lack of cooperation or help from others. This aspect comes only once every 29 years. It can also give health difficulties, so do all you can to stay strong and to give up any bad habits.

If your birthday falls from April 15 to 19, you may have problems in your marriage or close romantic relationship. Or, you may have a competitor has been going after your territory, or someone whose opinion you value has been critical of you, stubborn, and not open to hearing a discussion. Or it may simply be that you feel that conditions are not easy and you have to work harder than ever to get every little victory.

Saturn will leave your opposite sign of Libra on October 4. That may sound far away until you realize you've been dealing with Saturn since October 30, 2009. Tell yourself Saturn will leave at the end of September, four tiny days earlier. Now doesn't that feel MUCH sooner psychologically?

Now, let's get to the good news! Once you get to third week of April, everything will change, like a day that starts out in the morning when you wake up, full of heavy, menacing black clouds, plenty of thunder, lightning, and heavy sheets of rain that suddenly, and without any warning, turn to crystal blue sky, all sunny and bright. You won't see any hints that this is about to happen, but when it does, it may seem like a miracle.

Watch for the beautiful new moon, April 21, when money should start to rain down on you in buckets. Don't be afraid to ask for plenty of salary. That new moon will be in Taurus 2 degrees, and what makes it special is that this new moon will be in perfect angle to Neptune, the planet of creativity and the arts in your twelfth house of dreams and visions, and to Mars, your ruler, now in your sixth house of day-to-day work projects. This new moon also makes a perfect beam to Pluto, the planet of power and authority, in your tenth house of fame and honors, completing a grand triangle in the sky. It's clear you'll easily impress a VIP at the top. You may get an assignment that pays well and allows you to contribute much of your creativity and sense of style and taste. This could be the time of great victory and celebration.

All full moons have two weeks of influence, but with each passing day, the strength of that new moon will decline until there are no more vibrations to emit, two weeks later. Be sure to have career meetings and interviews lined up for April 21 and shortly thereafter. Mars and Mercury will be in good form, so no worries on that count. In astrology it is when you begin your conversation that counts - you don't have to land the job immediately, but something tells me you will before Venus goes retrograde May 15 to June 27. (Venus rules your income, so get cracking!)

In the days that follow this new moon, you will have a number of sensational days to put to good use.

On April 22, Mercury and Uranus will conjoin, allowing ideas to fall from your mind like diamonds all over. It's a day to brainstorm, for sure, as both will be in Aries.

On April 23, you'll have Mars sending greetings to the Sun, an ideal day for you to schedule a meeting that you feel is critical for your progress. It's a big day, and perfect for advancing your interests.

Romantically, now that Mercury and your ruler are turning direct, things will go better. Your thinking and communication will go smoother, and so will your partner's. As said earlier, watch that full moon, April 6, plus or minus four days, as there could be some relationship turbulence. Aries born April 15-19 may have some relationship meditations. Your partner appears to be under a lot of pressure, so allow your partner some slack if you still have feelings for each other.

Mars now moving toward stronger shape will make you feel more confident and sexy. Venus, now in Gemini, will help too, for Venus is in an air sign and will enhance your magnetism. Travel and love seem to go hand in hand, whether you have someone now or hope to meet someone in the future.

Summary

This is the month you've long awaited, for Mars - your guardian planet - is finally about to move direct on April 13. This means that your projects and relationships will pick up speed, and you can finally expect to see quick progress. Mars has been retrograde since January 23, so if you felt that you were walking through glue, with progress agonizing slowly, this was due to Mars being out of phase. You will enjoy the change, so finally you will be able to properly launch projects and new relationships, confident they won't get stalled or derailed, as they had been over the past three months. New relationships will also get off the ground in better form.

Don't be too fast to jump on new ventures or relationships, however, as one of the most frustrating days of the year will arrive when Saturn in Libra will oppose the Sun in Aries on April 15. The universe does not know this is tax day for many of us, of course - it's just one of those odd coincidences that shows up now and then that us mortals below view as a small cosmic joke. You may get deflating news on April 15, or someone may criticize you. Take what you can from the information, but don't let it overwhelm you or lower your self-esteem. Do nothing vital on or within two days on either side of this day - keep your head down and out of the line of fire. By all means, this has to be one of the worst days of the year to do your taxes. Have them done early!

In regard to your relationships - all kinds, not only romantic ones - the full moon of April 6 will bring an important grievance or long-term condition to a head, possibly involving a career matter. Pluto will be at hard angles to the Sun, so you may feel that a powerful VIP is being outrageously unfair to you. Should this should prove true, you will want to stand up for yourself.

Before you do, first judge whether or not you can win this battle, for it would not be wise to enter into a dispute you can't overcome. Aries is a clever sign, so if you keep your wits about you, you may be able to diffuse the problem, but it will take finesse. It is alternatively possible that a romantic relationship will explode. If you feel outraged by the way you have been treated, then by all means, speak up and clear the air - and let the chips fall where they may.

Your best moment of the month will arrive on April 21, the only new moon of the year in your house of earned income. This new moon will be filled with goodies for you, and it will help you get the raise in salary you deserve. Of course, nothing will happen on its own without your involvement, so you will have to make your case for your better salary. If you are interviewing for a new position, this new moon will help you negotiate for the right salary.

You are now in a cycle of enormous financial reward, so don't be shy about naming your price. It will be important to remind yourself that don't have to actually GET the money on or near the new moon, but you do have to open talks about money shortly after that new moon arrives. My suggestion: choose Monday, April 23, for your big financial talk, when the Sun and Mars will be so beautifully oriented that it's hard to imagine ANYONE saying no to you. That day is a perfect one for Aries!

Most romantic evenings: April 1, 2, 9, 10, 13-15, 18, 23, 24, 28, and 29.

A relationship reaches an important juncture: full moon April 6 plus or minus four days.

Venus hits your third house April 3-August 7. Time to hit the road for fun or for business. Both purposes should work out well.

Mercury goes direct April 4, no more delays!

Pluto will retrograde on April 10 to September 18, so career progress will temporarily slow.

You will love seeing Mars go direct, April 13, after waiting since January for your ruler to regulate its orbit! Life goes on fast forward again, but give Mars time to ramp up. Career is the only area that may lag a bit until September.

Ask for a raise and get it: new moon in Taurus April 21, plus two weeks.

One of the hardest days of the year, due to Saturn opposed to the Sun: April 15. Do nothing vital on this day - watch and observe.

A great day to brainstorm for ideas or work on a creative effort:

A Letter to My Readers From Susan Miller

A New Title to My Book, "The Year Ahead 2012 and Beyond"

The great sportswriter, Red Smith, once said, "There's nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and open a vein." Now we use computers to write, but the experience the same. Anyone who has ever written a book will agree, it's hard work, but ultimately the most satisfying work you could do on earth. I love to write.

I listened to all you had to say about last year's book. You wanted more pages. You wanted an annex on the nuances of Mercury Retrograde and also on How to Deal with Eclipses. I read what I had written before and that I had posted for you on my site, and those chapters were not good enough. I ripped those chapters apart and added a lot of new material in each. I added a short piece on December 21, 2012, which is the end date of the Mayan calendar and also addressed the controversy about whether you are the sign you think you are (yes), and also addressed whether there is another thirteenth sign (no), and explained why I feel the way I do.

When I was working on each of the signs, I saw that Jupiter would move into Gemini mid-year, to stay until the middle of 2013. When Neptune moved into Pisces on February 3, 2012, this year, this planet of imagination was to stay in Pisces for fourteen years, until January 26, 2026. When Pluto entered Capricorn in 2008, Pluto was prepared to stay - and work on our attitudes toward money - until 2024. Uranus entered Aries last March 11, 2012, to stay until March 6, 2019. Saturn is to move into Scorpio on October 4, 2012, this year, to stay until September 17, 2015. Not all years are the same. As I wrote, I realized in 2012 we were in a year of exceptional change, and each of us was about to transverse from one shore to another. As we gradually cross that bridge, we all would be in the process of saying goodbye to much of our past and walking bravely toward a very new future. It took me time to make sense of all this planetary traffic. Not all signs would feel the shifts of all the planets. For example, Aquarius would feel the move of Uranus to Aries very directly (as Uranus is this sign's ruler), but not be as affected by Pluto in Capricorn. I wanted to pinpoint what was new and fresh with the times we were living in, for no one wants a rerun of past years - and happily I found plenty of evidence of that.

As I wrote, I asked my publisher that we change the name of my book, from the "Year Ahead 2012" to the "Year Ahead 2012 and Beyond." I was spending time looking ahead, and discussing the change in attitude and societal shift some of these planets would have, but I also wanted to look back, to show you where you've been. You are never born brand new into any emerging year, of course, for you bring joys, disappointments, fears, victories, dreams, and a host of experiences and emotions with you into the New Year. Those have to be acknowledged too, so I worked hard at not just trying to walk in your shoes but to actually become you as I wrote, and to see the world as you do, through your eyes, in the light of all your recent experiences as told to me by the planet's positions.

I feel being active on Twitter has made me a better astrologer. I read your posts, and because tweets are short, I can see a great many of your thoughts and experiences. Writing my Year Ahead 2012 Illustrated Calendar (with fine artist Gloria Vanderbilt's work) was a good way for me to carefully study the year's details. I had to first memorize all the planetary positions, and like a forensic scientist see how the planets interconnected with one another to create change.

I saw, for example, that Jupiter was going into Gemini, and that the eclipses in Gemini-Sagittarius this year were destined to speed the progress of Jupiter's good work. New eclipses in the family of Scorpio-Taurus would later work with Saturn, once he moves into Scorpio in October. Uranus and Pluto meanwhile will work to give birth to a new world order. I had discussed that in my essay in my Year Ahead 2012 Calendar, and I don't use the same essays in the book and the calendar. In the front of my book, I hope you will see the essays I wrote on the feel of the year, and how it differs from last year. All kinds of connections were occurring to me, as I saw how the planets were working, not independently, but inter-dependently, to sweep out the old and outmoded, and to bring light to areas of society that need to be addressed.

This week, I will be writing the chapter on Pisces, my last chapter of the book. After that, the book will be done. Each chapter is massive, at least four times or more of the size you are used to seeing in Astrology Zone. We are attempting to put my work into your hands by the new moon April 21, at least digitally. Kindle and Nook will be the first to publish the book, and we are working with a new content manager at Apple, and hope we won't suffer the delays that we had on the iPad last year due to the way manuscripts move through the publication process at Apple. We are learning.

My publisher, Arthur Heydendael, is printing a traditional paper book very quickly. Creative director Jackie Meyer, the former Creative Director of Warner Books, is laying out the quality paperback version of my book. Jackie did the layout of all my calendars and also designed my book last year. I hope you will keep this year's book, as some of the material will be relevant to you in years to come.

I deeply appreciate your patience and support. Writing a book would be a tad easier if I weren't writing 45,000 words for Astrology Zone each month, but I love writing my forecasts for you each month, and I am cheered by knowing that at least you have had all the information you have needed as you awaited the finish of my book.

Discover your rising sign, the most important element to learn!

If you don't know your rising sign, you won't get quite as much out of my monthly forecasts on Astrology Zone or my daily forecasts on cell phones (or delivered to your email box daily by Daily Astrology Zone). If you are a longtime reader, you know that I am careful about not sending lots of newsletters. You are busy, so when I write to you, I will always have a good reason - to share important news you can use. In my newsletters I will discuss astrology and philosophical topics. I will also make one or two announcements. You will not get "spam" from me - I don't like getting those kinds of emails, and I won't send you anything I would not want to receive myself.
